probus

A couple of weeks ago I gave a chat to the Bermagui chapter of Probus about my work and arts practice (I mostly showed and talked about my MVA work with a few extra older book pieces thrown in for good measure) and next week I'm off to do the same for the Candelo Probus group. It's fascinating giving a 'show and tell' to a diverse group of predominantly retired folk, most of whom rarely give contemporary art a second's thought! I strangely (perversely?) have a great time showing all my booky things and powerpoint of my photographic book works - some in the audience really warm to the work, others really TRY to warm to it - and the rest sit mute!

I think it's always good to take your work out to the world, and not have it sit in a rarefied arty environment..... even if, as the maker, you have to accept the shrugging shoulders and glazed/dazed looks of innocent bystanders.
